Kazakhstan’s Social Development Soars with $1.2 Billion Asset Recovery

Kazakhstan Recovers Assets Worth $1.2 billion in Ongoing Efforts
ASTANA – Kazakhstan has successfully recovered assets worth approximately 610 billion tenge (US$1.2 billion) as part of its ongoing efforts to return illegally acquired assets to the state. This includes 506 billion tenge (US$977.2 million) in cash and property valued at over 103 billion tenge (US$198.9 million).

The results of these efforts were reviewed at a recent meeting of the Kazakh Commission on the Return of Illegally Acquired Assets, chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. During the meeting, officials outlined further measures to ensure transparency, reinvestment, and legal accountability.

The funds recovered, which are directed through the Special State Fund, are already being used to implement 280 social infrastructure projects across Kazakhstan. These projects cover key investment areas such as education, healthcare, sports, social security, and the modernization of public utility infrastructure.

Additionally, the commission approved several agreements on the voluntary return of illegally acquired assets to the state, resulting in an additional 150 billion tenge (US$289.7 million) to be transferred to the Special State Fund. Subjects of the relevant law have also committed to investing $10.5 billion in the national economy.

Furthermore, the commission supported the filing of claims in court against individuals who have illegally acquired assets, with assets totaling more than 84 billion tenge (US$162.2 million) to be transferred to the state.

These ongoing efforts demonstrate Kazakhstan’s commitment to combatting corruption and ensuring that illegally acquired assets are returned to the state for the benefit of its citizens.
