Keremet Bank Denies Reports of Sale to Russian Investor

Bishkek, July 5, 2024 – The press service of Keremet Bank has recently refuted claims of the sale of the bank to a Russian investor.

The controversy arose when a deputy of the Parliament, Dastan Bekeshev, posted information suggesting that Keremet Bank had been sold to a Russian oligarch. This information was based on the website of the Ministry of Justice, which indicated that the bank was privately owned.

However, the press service of Keremet Bank clarified that the misunderstanding may have occurred due to a recent re-registration process that the bank underwent on May 31, 2024. This re-registration was in connection with a change of address for one of the bank’s branches.

Furthermore, the bank spokesperson mentioned that there are plans to open new branches in Cholpon-Ata and Batken, which would require another round of re-registration in the near future.

In light of these developments, it is important to note that Keremet Bank remains under its current ownership and there is no sale to a Russian investor as previously suggested. The bank continues to operate as usual, serving its customers in the Kyrgyz Republic.
