Knife-wielding man injures police during attack and escapes
Police officer injured in knife attack in Diyarbakır’s Sur district
In a shocking incident in Diyarbakır’s Sur district, a police officer was injured in a knife attack by a suspect who then fled the scene. The incident took place on Museum Street in the Camiikebir Neighborhood during the evening hours.
The attacker, identified as MA, approached police officer Ş.A. who was on duty at the Motorcycle Police Teams Bureau and attacked him with a knife. The officer sustained minor injuries to his chest before the assailant managed to escape. Following the attack, other police officers pursued MA and fired warning shots to apprehend him. The suspect was eventually caught and taken into custody.
It was later revealed that the suspect MA was also involved in two purse snatching incidents prior to the attack on the police officer. Investigations are ongoing at the police station where the suspect is being held.
The moment of the attack was captured on a security camera, showcasing the dangerous situation that police officers face while on duty. Thankfully, the injured officer, Ş.A., was treated at Selahattin Eyyübi State Hospital and has since been discharged. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers take every day to ensure public safety.
