Kumtor Gold Mine: Operation in Full Swing

Kyrgyzstan’s Cabinet of Ministers Chairman, Akylbek Japarov, recently paid a visit to the Kumtor mine to inspect the ongoing operations. During his visit, Japarov toured the central open pit, observed the gold extraction processes at the factory, and examined the repair workshop for heavy mining equipment. He also learned about the new fuel and refueling complex that has been implemented at the site.

Almazbek Baryktabasov, President of Kumtor Gold Company, highlighted the progress being made on the underground gold mining project at the mine. The project is expected to yield approximately 115 tons of precious metal, with plans to also extract gold from spent ore in the tailing dump, potentially adding another 120 tons of gold to the production.

In addition to these projects, development is underway at the Togolok gold deposit and geological exploration is being conducted in the Dzhangart area, located 200 kilometers from the Kumtor mine.

Japarov stressed the importance of the mine’s continuous operations and the need to meet the set objectives. He commended the efforts made by the enterprise in automating processes and increasing the involvement of local suppliers to benefit the people and the state.

In 2023, the company produced 13,567 kilograms of gold, contributing 17.2 billion soms to the republic’s budget through taxes and other payments. Moreover, it is expected to pay over $151 million in dividends based on the previous year’s results.

The developments at Kumtor mine reflect the commitment to sustainable and efficient mining practices while contributing to the economic growth of Kyrgyzstan.
