Numan Kurtulmuş in Kyrgyzstan: Strengthening Ties Between Türkiye and the Turkish World
Numan Kurtulmuş, the President of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, recently concluded an official visit to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, aiming to enhance the relationship between the two nations. Upon arrival, Kurtulmuş was warmly welcomed by Nurlanbek Turgunbek Uulu, President of the Kyrgyzstan Jogorku Kenes. The meeting marked a significant step towards fostering bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
During the discussions, Kurtulmuş expressed his enthusiasm about being in Kyrgyzstan, a country he referred to as the homeland of their ancestors. He acknowledged the vital role of the Turkish Grand National Assembly in building strong relations, reiterating the importance of unity within the Turkish world amid global developments. Kurtulmuş remarked, "A new opportunity has emerged, both for the Turkish world and the world at large," highlighting the potential for strengthening collaborations in the region.
Looking towards economic aspirations, Kurtulmuş emphasized the goal of reaching a bilateral trade volume target of $5 billion, stressing the importance of mobilizing existing opportunities. He noted the significance of education in this collaboration, citing Manas University and Sapat educational institutions as pivotal elements in nurturing academic ties between Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan.
Kurtulmuş also underscored the strategic partnership between the two nations, expressing gratitude to Kyrgyzstan for its support through organizations like the Turkish States Organization and TürkPA. The visit aimed to reinforce cultural and educational ties, wanting to bring the two communities closer together. The opening of the Yunus Emre Institute in Kyrgyzstan was highlighted as a step towards achieving this goal.
In his remarks, Turgunbek Uulu acknowledged the fruitful history of cooperation between the two countries, recalling that Kurtulmuş previously visited around a decade ago as Deputy Prime Minister. He expressed optimism that today’s discussions would pave the way for enhanced bilateral and multilateral relations, especially in the health, education, and military sectors.
Both leaders signed a cooperation protocol between the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and the Kyrgyz Parliament, further solidifying the commitment to mutual growth and collaboration.
