Kyrgyz Parliament Ratifies Border Agreements with Tajikistan

Deputies Approve Bills on Kyrgyz-Tajik Border Agreement

At a recent meeting of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament of Kyrgyzstan), deputies have adopted bills regarding the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in three readings. The approval includes the ratification of agreements between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan on various aspects related to the border.

The approved agreements cover the Kyrgyz-Tajik State Border, construction and use of roads, arrangement and use of road intersections, as well as ensuring access to water management and energy facilities. These agreements aim to establish clear guidelines and cooperation between the two countries on border-related issues.

During a joint meeting of various Zhogorku Kenesh committees, including those on International Affairs, Defense, Security, and Migration, the agreements were discussed and approved. Additionally, committees on Constitutional Legislation, Law and Order, Agrarian Policy, Transport, and Energy Complex also gave their approval for the agreements.

The signing of these agreements follows a recent state visit by Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon to Kyrgyzstan on March 13. The agreements must now be ratified by the Parliaments of both countries before being signed again by the heads of state. This process will mark the beginning of border demarcation efforts between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
