The Commonwealth Cup International Sumo Competition in Moscow
On December 11, 2023, the international sumo competition Commonwealth Cup among men and women took place in Moscow. The event saw the participation of more than 200 athletes from countries including Japan, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Belarus, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Hungary, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, the USA, and Moldova.
The competition included various weight categories, with member of Kyrgyzstan’s national team Sulde Dongak winning a silver medal in the weight category up to 115 kilograms, and Aibek Kasmanbetov securing a bronze medal.
It was reported that the winners in the individual weight categories would receive cash prizes, with the champion receiving 50,000 rubles, the silver medalist receiving 30,000 rubles, and the bronze medalist receiving 20,000 rubles.
The competition brought together athletes from a diverse range of countries, showcasing the international appeal of the sport of sumo wrestling.
