Kyrgyz-Uzbek Border Checkpoints To Be Reactivated After Closure

Video Shows Destruction of Wall at Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan Border Crossing Point

Recently, video footage of the destruction of a wall at the “Bekabad-Khanabad” border crossing point between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan was disseminated. The video shows that the incident occurred on the border of Uzbekistan’s Andijan region and Kyrgyzstan’s Jalalabad region. According to the Kyrgyz border service, the Uzbek side is preparing to reopen this checkpoint.

The “Bekabad-Khanabad” border crossing point was closed by Uzbekistan in 2010, along with the “Korasuv” and “Korabagish” crossing points to the Osh region. However, reports suggest that all these border checkpoints will be reopened soon. The Kyrgyz side has also confirmed its readiness to resume the passage of citizens through these points.

There have been ongoing discussions between the governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan regarding the opening of additional transit points between the two countries. The primary aim of these points would be to facilitate the transit of traffic flows.

Furthermore, it was also reported that negotiations on the demarcation of the state border were held by the government delegations of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in the city of Samarkand, indicating a positive step towards resolving any potential border disputes.
