Kyrgyz-Uzbek border now open for citizens with ID card

Kyrgyzstan’s Jogorku Kenesh has approved a draft law on the ratification of the protocol on amendments to the agreement on mutual travel of citizens between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The agreement was signed in January 2023 in Bishkek, and the protocol on amendments was adopted in three readings on May 3. The protocol aims to update the list of documents required for entry, exit, transit, movement, and stay of citizens in both countries. Kyrgyzstan has added the words “ID card” to the agreement and removed the words “birth certificate.” Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has made changes to the 2nd annex of the agreement, and the paragraph related to the birth certificate was deleted. To reduce the risk of illegal deportation of citizens from Kyrgyzstan, the attachment to the birth certificate of children under 16 has been withdrawn as a document granting the right to enter and exit the country. On April 27, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the document on the ratification of the agreement with Kyrgyzstan on crossing the border using ID cards.
