Kyrgyz Women Stripped of Passports by Employer in Iraq

Kyrgyz Women in Iraq Have Passports Taken Away by Employer
In the bustling city of Baghdad, Iraq, a group of Kyrgyz women has found themselves in a difficult situation after their employer took away their passports. The news broke when one of the victims, Alina Abdysheva, took to social media to share her harrowing experience.
Abdysheva revealed that she had come to Baghdad over a year ago with hopes of earning money as an eyelash extension specialist. She had signed a contract with a beauty salon called Luxury Beauty Baghdad, which also included a provision for a $3,000 deposit to ensure that employees would fulfill their contractual obligations.
However, as time went on, Abdysheva noticed that her employer was not abiding by the terms of the contract. Not only were they withholding the workers’ passports, but they also began imposing fines and infringing on their rights. Matters came to a head when Abdysheva and another colleague were handed over to the police under false pretenses.
Fearing for their safety, the women decided to leave the salon and seek help. Unfortunately, without their passports, they were left in a vulnerable position, unable to seek legal assistance or contact their home country’s authorities.
Thankfully, Abdysheva reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan for help. The Ministry has already initiated contact with the Kyrgyz Embassy in Kuwait to address the situation and provide support to the affected women.
The plight of these Kyrgyz women serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by migrant workers in foreign countries. It is crucial for authorities to intervene promptly and ensure the safety and well-being of individuals who find themselves in vulnerable situations abroad.
