Kyrgyzstan and Angola Establish Diplomatic Relations

Bishkek – On September 28, 2024, a ceremony was held in New York to establish diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev, and the Minister of Foreign Relations of Angola, Tete Antonio, signed a joint communiqué during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Both parties agreed to enhance political dialogue and cooperation through bilateral consultations and high-level visits. The areas of education, climate change, tourism, security, and collaboration within international organizations were identified as key areas for cooperation in the initial stages of their relationship.

Jeenbek Kulubaev also requested Angola’s support for Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for the term 2027-2028. Additionally, he asked for Angola’s support in obtaining observer status for the Kyrgyz Republic in the African Union.

With the establishment of diplomatic relations with Angola, the Kyrgyz Republic now has diplomatic ties with 172 countries. This marks a significant milestone in the country’s foreign relations and potentially opens up new opportunities for cooperation and collaboration on a global scale.
