Kyrgyzstan has commenced the installation of barriers along its border with Tajikistan in the Batken region, specifically in the Koshmolo area of the Tort-Gul aiyl aimak. This initiative was announced by the press service of the Presidential Envoy to the Batken region.

The project’s launch ceremony took place at a strategically significant location—near a stele marking the junction of the borders of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Notably, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), Kamchybek Tashiev, participated in the event via video link.

Among those in attendance were other key officials, including Abdikarim Alimbaev, First Deputy Chairman of the SCNS and Director of the Border Service; Nazyrbek Borubaev, Special Representative for Border Issues; and Aybek Shamenov, the Presidential Envoy to Batken.

To facilitate the work, a field camp has been established in the vicinity, complete with necessary equipment and ensuring suitable conditions for the soldiers stationed at the border.

The initial phase of this project will involve the installation of barbed wire fencing along a 420-kilometer stretch of the border, with completion expected by the end of 2025. This development follows the recent delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, finalized when the Presidents of both nations signed an agreement in Bishkek on March 13, 2025.

As the situation evolves, officials are hopeful that these measures will bolster national security and strengthen border management in the region.
