Kyrgyzstan Braces for Cold Snap: January 23-25

The Hydrometeorological Service in Kyrgyzstan has issued a storm warning, predicting significant weather changes and a sharp drop in air temperatures across the country. According to the forecast, intermittent snowfall with heavy precipitation is expected in some areas, along with fog in certain regions. In southern areas, wet snow may cling to power lines and trees, creating hazardous conditions.

Roads are expected to be icy with snow-packed surfaces, and mountain areas may experience snowdrifts. The west wind is also expected to intensify in specific areas, reaching speeds of 15-20 meters per second, and up to 19-24 meters per second over Issyk-Kul Lake.

On January 23rd, significant temperature drops are anticipated during the daytime and continuing into January 24th and 25th in various regions of the country. In the Chui Valley, temperatures are expected to range from -15 to -20°C at night and -4 to -9°C during the day. Similarly, the Talas Valley, Osh, Jalal-Abad, Batken valley zones, Issyk-Kul basin, Naryn agricultural zone, foothill regions, and Suusamyr Valley will all experience substantial temperature decreases during this period.

Residents are advised to take precautions and stay informed about the changing weather conditions to ensure their safety during this period of extreme winter weather in Kyrgyzstan.
