Kyrgyzstan Braces for Mudflows Amid Heavy Rains.
Precipitations expected in Kyrgyzstan, Ministry of Emergency Situations reports
Bishkek – On May 15, 2024, the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Kyrgyzstan has issued a warning about expected precipitations in the country.
According to the Hydrometeorological Service, mudflows are likely to occur in the mountainous and foothill areas of Chui, Talas, Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions from May 16 to May 18. This is due to the rising air temperature and anticipated heavy rainfall in these regions. As a result, the water level in the country’s rivers is expected to increase.
To prevent flooding and minimize the potential damage, the Ministry of Emergency Situations is advising residents to take precautionary measures. This includes installing and cleaning drainage ditches and pipes near their homes, as well as within the boundaries of their land plots.
It is crucial for residents in these areas to stay alert and follow the recommendations provided by the authorities to ensure their safety during this period of expected rainfall and potential mudflows.
