Kyrgyzstan Continues as Top Supplier of Japanese Cars to Russia

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – The latest statistics shared by Avtostat representative Sergei Tselikov show that Kyrgyzstan remains the primary supplier of used Japanese cars to Russia. Over the past three years, approximately 270,000 used cars bearing the Toyota logo have been imported into the Russian Federation.
The data reveals that the majority of these used Toyota cars are imported from Japan, accounting for 95% of the total. Armenia contributes 7%, South Korea almost 2%, China 1%, and Belarus 0.7% to the import of these vehicles.
When it comes to exporting countries, China and Kyrgyzstan lead the way with 25% each in terms of the number of cars imported into Russia. Kazakhstan follows closely behind with 17.5%, and other countries such as Japan, Belarus, the UAE, Armenia, and Georgia also have a share in the market.
Interestingly, from March 2022 to February 2025, Kazakhstan saw a significant rise in the transit of new passenger cars into Russia, with nearly 100,000 vehicles being imported through this route. Kyrgyzstan, on the other hand, saw the opening of a transit corridor a bit later, reaching its peak in March 2024. However, since April, this corridor has also closed, with around 130,000 new passenger cars exported through Kyrgyzstan in the span of three years.
These developments highlight the crucial role that both Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan play in facilitating the transportation of vehicles between Japan and Russia, further solidifying their position as key players in the automotive industry in the region.
