Kyrgyzstan delays implementation of individual CMTPL insurance again

The introduction of Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability insurance (CMTPL) for vehicle owners in Kyrgyzstan has been postponed. According to the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the new deadline for the introduction of CMTPL insurance for individuals is January 1, 2025.

Initially, it was proposed to defer the introduction of CMTPL insurance for only six months, but the decision has now been extended to a year. The press service of the ministry has promised to provide detailed information about the decision at a later date.

This postponement comes after the Cabinet resolution No. 682 of December 16, 2022, which stipulated that the CMTPL insurance certificate would be required to be presented to the inspector of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. Failure to present the certificate would result in fines for vehicle owners starting from April 1, 2023.

However, President Sadyr Japarov has announced a postponement of the implementation and has taken the project under his personal control to ensure its successful completion.

The law on CMTPL insurance for vehicle owners was adopted in Kyrgyzstan seven years ago, and the government continues to work on its effective implementation. Stay tuned for further updates on this important policy.
