Kyrgyzstan Education Ministry Vows Fairness in State Language Test

Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan explains Kyrgyz language test for university applicants
In a meeting with Parliament, the Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan, Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, provided clarifications on the recent order requiring university applicants to take a Kyrgyz language test.
The Minister assured deputies that the language test would not lead to discrimination against individuals from other nationalities and would not affect their admission to universities. She emphasized that the test would serve as a trial run initially, with plans to make it mandatory in the future. Additionally, the Ministry of Education will monitor the standards of learning the Kyrgyz language in private schools.
The Ministry of Education has issued an order stating that passing the Kyrgyz language test, based on the results of the Nationwide Testing, will become mandatory for applicants entering higher educational institutions starting in 2024.
This move aims to ensure that students have proficiency in the Kyrgyz language, promoting greater linguistic diversity and inclusivity in higher education institutions. With these measures, the Kyrgyz government seeks to prioritize the preservation and promotion of the Kyrgyz language and culture in the country’s education system.
