Kyrgyzstan gears up for electricity exports to China
Kyrgyzstan is making significant strides in expanding its energy sector, with the construction of powerful substations underway as part of the Tamga-Karakol and Kemin-Torugart projects. These substations are crucial for enabling the export of electricity to China, as stated by President Sadyr Japarov during an event celebrating the 90th anniversary of the country’s energy sector.
Furthermore, the president announced the commencement of new solar and wind power plant construction across the republic. This marks a pivotal step towards increasing the utilization of green energy sources in Kyrgyzstan.
In addition to these developments, the construction of substations and transmission lines for exporting electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan has been completed under the CASA 1000 project. President Japarov highlighted the favorable conditions that have been put in place to attract investors, including tax exemptions, preferences, financial guarantees, and the ability to set electricity prices in foreign currency.
It is worth noting that memorandums of intent have been signed for the export of electricity to China, along with plans to construct a 500-kilovolt transmission line between Kyrgyzstan and China in 2023. These initiatives demonstrate Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to enhancing its energy infrastructure and exploring new opportunities for power export.
