Kyrgyzstan Implements Stricter Regulations for Foreign Visitors
New Rules for Foreigners and Stateless Persons in Kyrgyzstan
Starting on September 5, new rules for the stay of foreigners and stateless persons in Kyrgyzstan will come into effect, as approved by Cabinet’s resolution No. 437 of July 31, 2024, reported by the Ministry of Digital Development.
The new regulations outline a different procedure for citizens intending to stay in the country for more than 60 days for personal reasons not related to work, study, or business. To be registered, they will now need a document confirming their right to stay in the republic, depending on the purpose of their visit.
These changes will apply to citizens of visa-free countries such as Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Moldova.
Key changes include allowing citizens of EAEU countries (Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus) to stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, while citizens of Tajikistan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Moldova can stay for 60 days within a 120-day period.
Furthermore, for stays exceeding these periods, individuals must obtain a temporary residence permit or any other relevant document allowing them to remain in the republic.
Temporary residence permits will be issued within 15 working days for one year, with the option for annual extensions up to five years. After the specified periods of stay without registration expire, foreign citizens must leave Kyrgyzstan and can only re-enter after 60 or 90 days, respectively.
Foreign citizens are also required to register within specific time frames, ranging from 5 to 30 days depending on their nationality, upon entering Kyrgyzstan.
Those seeking temporary residence permits and additional information can seek assistance at any territorial division of the Population Registration Department under the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic.
