
Kyrgyzstan Joins Turkic Alliance of Long-Distance Runners

Bishkek, 01 February 2025 – A new era for long-distance running in the Central Asian and Caucasus region has been ushered in with the creation of the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs (TAN). Organizers of five major races from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan have come together to establish the first running association in the region.
The Bishkek Snow Leopard Run half marathon organizing committee was the first to report on the formation of TAN. This alliance will offer participants the opportunity to earn a unique medal and the status of an international runner by completing the marathon series in the participating countries.
The collaboration between these nations symbolizes the unity of Turkic cultures and aims to promote international sports tourism. The establishment of the TAN association is set to elevate the region’s races to a new international level, attracting runners from around the world.
The inaugural regional running series will consist of five races, including the Baku Marathon in May (Baku, Azerbaijan), Bishkek Snow Leopard Run on September 21 (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), Almaty Marathon on September 28 (Almaty, Kazakhstan), Turkistan Marathon on October 26 (Turkestan, Kazakhstan), and Samarkand Marathon in November (Samarkand, Uzbekistan).
This exciting development in the world of long-distance running is sure to bring increased attention to the region’s races and encourage more participants to take part in these unique and culturally rich events.
