Kyrgyzstan opts out of Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland

Kyrgyzstan to Refrain from Participation in Ukraine Peace Summit

Kyrgyzstan has announced that it will not be participating in the upcoming peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baisalov, made this statement in an interview with Deutsche Welle.

Baisalov explained that Kyrgyz Republic is maintaining close contact with the Ukrainian side and that from the beginning, the country’s president declared that they would treat both Ukraine and Russia equally.

He stated, “The word does not mean a neutral position in Kyrgyz. We are really rooting for the earliest possible end to that crazy situation, when Russia and Ukraine … This could not have happened even in a nightmare. But the Ukrainian side understands all our reasons. We have brought all our arguments to them. We hope to remain in this process. Moreover, we are actively making efforts within the framework of Turkic states. However, in the current situation, we have not reached the stage of bilateral negotiations. Our direct participation will not be so valuable so far. And Ukraine accepted our position.”

The Ukraine peace summit is scheduled to take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland. The main objective of the event is to discuss peace proposals based on the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law, as well as to promote the peace process in Ukraine.
