
Kyrgyzstan President Japarov Meets with European Council President Michel

President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, recently met with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, during his working visit to Belgium. The two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral issues and prospects for trade and economic cooperation, including investment and joint projects in various sectors such as energy, rare metals, and agriculture.
Charles Michel welcomed Sadyr Japarov and expressed his commitment to deepening cooperation based on principles of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. He highlighted promising areas of cooperation such as the energy industry, environmentally friendly technologies, and transportation.
In response, Sadyr Japarov thanked Charles Michel for the warm welcome and special attention to Kyrgyzstan. He emphasized the importance of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement signed by the European Union and all 27 member states, signaling a new level of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the EU.
During the meeting, Sadyr Japarov also addressed the negative impact of climate change, particularly on Kyrgyzstan’s glaciers. He discussed the construction of the Kambarata-1 hydropower station and invited potential investors to participate in the project.
Additionally, Japarov highlighted the importance of cooperation in the field of rare metals, citing Kyrgyzstan’s abundance of metals that are of interest to European countries. He invited investors and financial institutions to collaborate on projects related to rare metals.
Furthermore, President Japarov raised the issue of aviation safety, noting that Kyrgyzstan’s airlines were included in the EU Aviation Safety List in 2006. He emphasized the country’s efforts to improve aviation safety standards and expressed a desire to resolve the issue to allow Kyrgyz planes to fly to EU countries.
Overall, the meeting between Sadyr Japarov and Charles Michel marked a significant step towards enhancing cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union in various strategic areas.
