
Kyrgyzstan prioritizes SCO participation in regional affairs

Bishkek, March 18, 2025 – The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, recently met with the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Nurlan Yermekbayev, to discuss the importance of cooperation and upcoming events within the organization.
During the meeting, President Japarov congratulated Yermekbayev on his new position and expressed his hopes for success in the role. He emphasized the significance of the SCO in global politics, highlighting its role as a platform for dialogue among major regional powers.
Kyrgyzstan, as an active participant in the SCO, places great importance on deepening cooperation among member states across various areas. President Japarov also mentioned the upcoming event of Kyrgyzstan assuming the chairmanship of the SCO in the fall of 2025.
The main priorities for cooperation within the SCO were discussed, with a focus on developing trade, economic, and transport-logistics ties. President Japarov stressed the importance of creating effective financial mechanisms, including the establishment of an SCO Development Bank.
Nurlan Yermekbayev commended Kyrgyzstan on the signing of the state border agreement with Tajikistan, which was well-received by all SCO member states. He also mentioned President Japarov’s initiative in developing a roadmap for cooperation with SCO dialogue partners.
Furthermore, Kyrgyzstan has proposed the establishment of a Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime in Bishkek, showcasing the country’s commitment to addressing important issues within the SCO.
Overall, the meeting between President Japarov and Secretary-General Yermekbayev highlighted the importance of continued collaboration and cooperation within the SCO for the benefit of all member states.
