Kyrgyzstan Reports Over 13,000 HIV-Infected Individuals

As of October 1, 2023, a total of 13,030 HIV-infected individuals were officially registered in Kyrgyzstan, according to a press conference held in honor of World AIDS Day. Among the infected, 12,272 are citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

The Republican Center for Control of Bloodborne Viral Hepatitis and HIV reported that during the entire period of observation of the epidemic in Kyrgyzstan, 3,233 people with HIV infection have died. Currently, 80 percent of people living with HIV in the republic are aware of their status. However, approximately 2,000 people living with HIV are unaware of their status.

In response to these figures, the director of the center, Umutkan Zhusupova, has announced that various events will be held in December to provide free HIV testing to the public. This initiative aims to increase awareness and early detection of HIV in the country.

The statistics reveal the importance of continued efforts to raise awareness and provide access to testing and treatment for HIV in Kyrgyzstan. The government and relevant organizations must work together to address the issue and ensure that all individuals living with HIV have the support and resources they need.
