Kyrgyzstan Requests Extension for Legalizing Migrants in Russia

Kyrgyzstan Requests Extension of Migrant Legalization Period from Russia

Kyrgyzstan has formally asked Russia to extend the period for the legalization of migrants in the country. This request was made by Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev during a meeting of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security, and Migration of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.

Deputy Ilimbek Kubanychbek uulu highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating that citizens of Kyrgyzstan who are currently in Russia in violation of migration laws need to either settle their legal status by April 30, 2025, or leave the country. The implementation of a register of controlled persons has led to various difficulties for Kyrgyzstanis, such as the blocking of bank cards and challenges in enrolling children in educational institutions.

In response, Almaz Imangaziev mentioned that Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexey Overchuk, recently visited Kyrgyzstan. Discussions were held with him regarding the extension of the decree issued by the President of the Russian Federation. Kyrgyzstan is now waiting for an official response from the Russian side and continues to actively engage with Russian officials on this matter.

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has reported that 685,000 foreigners are included in the register of controlled persons in the country and must take action by April 30 to legalize their stay. Among them, approximately 67,000 Kyrgyzstanis have had their bank cards blocked, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The issue of migrant legalization remains a pressing concern for both Kyrgyzstan and Russia, with efforts being made to find a resolution that accommodates the needs of all parties involved. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
