Kyrgyzstan Sets New Daily Electricity Consumption Record

Kyrgyzstan Exceeds Daily Electricity Consumption, Minister Urges Conservation
Bishkek – On August 2, 2024, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev announced that Kyrgyzstan has exceeded its daily electricity consumption of 40 million kilowatt-hours due to hot weather. This consumption is significantly higher than the usual 32-35 million kilowatt-hours.
Ibraev highlighted that this high level of electricity consumption is unprecedented in the country and emphasized the need for conservation. The increased consumption is leading to greater water consumption from reservoirs, which could potentially create problems in the winter months.
In response to the situation, Ibraev issued a plea to consumers to save electricity in order to prevent further strain on reservoirs. He warned that failure to conserve now could result in difficulties during the winter.
The main reason for the spike in electricity consumption, according to Ibraev, is the use of air conditioners during the hot weather. While neighboring Kazakhstan has already implemented restrictions on electricity consumption, Kyrgyzstan has not yet taken such measures.
As the country faces this challenge, it is crucial for consumers to be mindful of their electricity usage and work towards conserving energy for the future.
