In a significant agricultural advancement, Kyrgyzstan has officially commenced testing new drought-resistant varieties of alfalfa. The trials are taking place at the Nur-Cholpon seed farming enterprise located in the Zhaiyl district of the Chui region, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture.
This innovative project brings together expert scientists from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Australia, aiming to identify the most productive alfalfa varieties that thrive under the region’s local conditions, especially those marked by water scarcity.
The focus of the research is on alfalfa varieties that can endure dry periods, an initiative crucial in the face of climate change. Strengthening the forage base for livestock farming is essential to ensuring farmers can achieve stable yields of high-quality feed.
