Kyrgyz Citizen Convicted of Promoting Extremist Organization in Surgut
A citizen of Kyrgyzstan has been convicted of promoting an extremist organization in Surgut and has been taken into custody, according to a report from the website of the City Court.
The Surgut City Court stated that the individual from Kyrgyz Republic was found guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 1 of Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Russia, specifically for the public display of symbols of extremist organizations.
Upon monitoring the individual’s account on the VKontakte social media platform, it was discovered that he had posted the flag of the Islamic Liberation Party, which is a banned organization known as Hizb ut-Tahrir al Islami. The individual was found to have demonstrated these symbols extensively, resulting in a violation of the federal Law on Combating Extremist Activity.
The defendant confessed to his actions and was subsequently sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest without any additional penalties.
This case highlights the seriousness with which authorities in Surgut and Russia as a whole are taking actions against individuals promoting extremist ideologies. It serves as a warning to others who may engage in similar activities that there will be consequences for their actions.
