Kyrgyzstanis Among Foreigners Detained in the USA for Immigration Violations
In a recent development, Kyrgyzstanis have been detained in the United States on suspicion of violating immigration laws. According to the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Office, a total of 100 foreigners, including citizens of Kyrgyzstan, have been detained in Puerto Rico and are facing deportation.
CNN has reported that individuals from various countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Guatemala, Ecuador, Haiti, Mexico, China, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, the British Virgin Islands, Israel, Italy, and Japan have also been detained in this operation.
The crackdown comes in the wake of the U.S. administration’s decision, following President Donald Trump’s inauguration, to suspend the entry of migrants from Mexico by disabling the CBP One app. This service, which was launched in 2023 during the previous administration, allowed migrants to schedule appointments to enter the U.S. through official checkpoints.
The detained individuals are currently being processed at ICE, ERO (Embedment and Removal Operations), and CBP (Customs and Border Protection) facilities in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
