Kyrgyzstan’s 960 Villages in Need of Clean Drinking Water

Kyrgyzstan Struggles with Providing Clean Water to Villages

Out of 2,014 villages in Kyrgyzstan, only 796 currently have access to safe drinking water. This information was provided by the State Institution for the Development of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation to 24.kg news agency.

In the past three years, clean water systems have been restored and implemented in 114 villages, with construction currently in progress in 258 villages. However, there is still a significant need for the construction and rehabilitation of water supply systems in 960 settlements across the country. The estimated cost for these projects is around $1 billion, as stated by the state institution.

To address this crucial issue, an investment plan has been developed, and negotiations are ongoing with various donors including the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the Saudi Fund for Development, the Eurasian Bank for Stabilization and Development, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

Efforts are being made to secure funding and resources to ensure that all villages in Kyrgyzstan have access to clean and safe drinking water. This initiative highlights the importance of addressing basic needs such as water supply to improve the living conditions of communities in the country.
