
Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Natural Resources visits Kumtor Mine

Acting Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Azis Saparaliev, recently paid a visit to the Kumtor mine, as reported by Kumtor Gold Company. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the central open pit, observe the operations of the gold extraction plant, and tour the tailing dump.
Kubanychbek Turdukozhoev, the Vice President for Production at Kumtor Gold Company CJSC, highlighted that the current method of extracting gold-bearing ore at the mine is through open pit mining. He emphasized that all gold production activities are carried out in compliance with environmental norms and international standards. Additionally, preparations for integrated gold mining under the Togolok project are actively underway. The company’s future plans also include secondary processing of gold from the tailing dump and the implementation of a project on gold mining using the underground method.
Azis Saparaliev underscored the importance of adhering to regulatory works and environmental standards at the mine. He stressed that the enterprise plays a crucial role in the national economy, with over 3,000 specialists working there. Saparaliev expressed confidence in the professional team at the mine to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the enterprise for the benefit of the country.
In terms of performance, Kumtor Gold Company reported that in 2023, they produced at least 13,567 kilograms of gold. Additionally, they contributed 17.2 billion soms to the country’s budget in the form of taxes, social contributions, and other payments. Furthermore, based on the results of the previous year, the company paid $151.3 million in dividends.
The visit by the Acting Minister and the positive results achieved by Kumtor Gold Company demonstrate the importance of responsible and sustainable mining practices in Kyrgyzstan.
