Kyrgyzstan’s Next Presidential Election set for January 24, 2027

The upcoming presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan have been officially scheduled for January 24, 2027. This decision was made during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on constitutional legislation, state structure, judicial, legal issues, and regulations.

The committee has approved a bill proposing amendments to the Law “On elections of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and deputies of the Zhogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic” in three readings. The initiative for these changes came from the head of state.

The purpose of the bill is to align the norm of Part 1 of Article 48 of the law with the Constitution and provide clarity regarding the timing of the next presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan.

According to the newly proposed amendments, the next presidential elections will take place on the fourth Sunday of January in the year when the current president’s term expires. The Zhogorku Kenesh will be responsible for scheduling the election no later than four months before the election day.

It is worth noting that Sadyr Japarov was elected President of Kyrgyzstan on January 28, 2021, for a six-year term under the previous version of the Constitution.

As the country prepares for the upcoming elections, the government aims to ensure a transparent and democratic electoral process for the Kyrgyz people. Stay tuned for more updates on the political developments in Kyrgyzstan.
