President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov Advances “Green” Agenda with Islamic Development Bank

Bishkek – 08 June 2024 – President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan recently met with the head of the Islamic Development Bank, Muhammad Al Jasser, to discuss various initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly development within the country.

During the meeting, President Japarov congratulated Muhammad Al Jasser on the 50th anniversary of the bank and expressed gratitude for his contributions to the development of Kyrgyzstan. As a token of appreciation, Japarov awarded Al Jasser with the prestigious Dostuk Order.

One of the key topics of discussion was the “green” agenda of Kyrgyzstan, particularly focusing on the construction of the innovative “smart and green” Asman city in the Issyk-Kul region. President Japarov revealed that the construction of the eco-friendly city has already commenced, incorporating sustainable practices to protect the surrounding environment, specifically the Issyk-Kul lake.

“It will be a city where only electric cars and electric buses will move on the roads. The city will be supplied with solar, wind and hydroelectric energy,” stated President Japarov, emphasizing the commitment towards reducing harmful emissions and promoting sustainability.

In line with this vision, plans are underway to establish a plant for the production of electric cars in Kyrgyzstan, in collaboration with China. The goal is to assemble approximately 80,000 electric cars annually, with a focus on replacing old, polluting vehicles with eco-friendly alternatives.

“We plan to start switching Kyrgyzstan to environmentally friendly transport at the end of this year or early next year,” shared President Japarov, outlining the government’s strategy to promote sustainable transportation practices and reduce environmental impact.

The discussions with the Islamic Development Bank underscore Kyrgyzstan’s dedication to advancing its green agenda and fostering partnerships to achieve sustainable development goals. Through initiatives such as the Asman city project and the promotion of electric vehicles, Kyrgyzstan is taking proactive steps towards a greener and more sustainable future.
