Kyrgyzstan’s Priorities within the Economic Cooperation Organization

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov set out the country’s priorities for cooperation with the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) during the organization’s 16th summit, held in Tashkent. In a speech at the summit, Japarov emphasized the importance of regional and interregional integration based on common economic interests as a key element of the future vision for the region.
Japarov outlined several key areas of focus for cooperation within the ECO. These include:
1. Trade: While the volume of trade within the ECO is growing, Japarov stressed that the organization’s role in regional economic and trade ties does not yet align with its potential.
2. Transport and logistics: Japarov emphasized the region’s potential to serve as a crucial bridge between North and South, West and East, and called for the development of transport and logistics corridors, multimodal transportation, and the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad.
3. Energy security: Expanding the geography of energy supplies was identified as a priority to ensure energy security in the region.
4. Information and communication technologies: Kyrgyzstan extended an invitation to IT companies from ECO member countries to cooperate and develop joint information products in the High Technology Park of Kyrgyzstan.
By setting out these priorities, Kyrgyzstan aims to enhance its cooperation within the ECO and contribute to the organization’s efforts to promote economic development and integration in the region.
