Last-minute Decision: Netanyahu considers arresting… Trump gives sanction to UCM
US President Trump has taken a strong stance against the International Criminal Court (UCM), signing a presidential decree that imposes sanctions on UCM officials. In his written statement, Trump accused the UCM of targeting the United States and its allies, such as Israel, in unauthorized and illegitimate ways.
Specifically, Trump referenced the UCM’s refusal to accept an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for alleged war crimes in Gaza. He criticized the UCM for claiming jurisdiction over individuals from countries like the US and Israel, which are not members of the Roman Statute.
As a result of the decree, UCM officials will face sanctions that will prevent them from obtaining American visas and conducting financial transactions with the US. This move comes after UCM issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant last year, a decision that was not recognized by US officials.
Some Republican members of Congress have proposed imposing sanctions on the UCM in response to their actions. Trump’s decree aims to protect the sovereignty of the United States and its allies from what he perceives as unwarranted and biased actions by the UCM.
