Last Minute Economy News: May 1 Update from the Business World

Ali Kopuz, President of Istanbul Commodity Exchange (İSTİB), stressed the importance of workers in the sustainability and development of economic activities and civilization in a recent written statement. Kopuz emphasized that the worker and the employer should be seen as complementary elements, with labor being the foundation of entrepreneurship and halal earned capital.

Kopuz stated, “The starting point of entrepreneurship and halal earned capital is labor, the sweat of the forehead and mind. The worker is entrusted to the employer, and the job is entrusted to the employee. We need to value the sacredness of labor and ensure that our workers, who earn halal, are respected. As a country, we must increase the share of qualified employment and ensure that the share of our workers in the national income is equitable. This is crucial for establishing peace and prosperity in our country.”

In a statement issued by the Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (TÜSİAD) in honor of May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day, it was highlighted that creating a modern working life that respects labor rights, emphasizes income justice, and secures social rights is essential for a democratic, fair, and respected society.

The statement emphasized the importance of implementing holistic policies in Turkey to combat informality, prioritize decent work, protect occupational health and safety, and promote work and employment. It was noted that as working life evolves with digital technologies, the focus should be on prioritizing social welfare and strengthening the connection between education and employment.

Furthermore, increasing the participation of women and young people in employment, ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals to access decent jobs, and developing the competencies and skills of all employees were highlighted as critical steps for improving working conditions in Turkey. The statement stressed the importance of cooperation and solidarity among workers, employers, and the state to achieve higher welfare levels and fair distribution of wealth in society.

It was concluded that maintaining a constructive social dialogue mechanism between employers and the state is essential for promoting labor peace and prosperity in the country.
