Last Minute News: Turkey Deletes Expired Products from NGOs, Exports to Russia

Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Teams Find Expired Food Products in City Warehouses
The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams recently carried out inspections in the city, targeting food product sellers. During these inspections, fines were imposed on businesses found selling products that could potentially harm public health.
One startling discovery was made during an inspection at a warehouse in the Çamköy Neighborhood of the Aksu district. Here, 65,662 expired products such as chocolate, biscuits, energy drinks, and canned fruit were uncovered. Most of these products, which had passed their expiration dates, were imported. Even more concerning was the fact that the expiration dates on these products had been tampered with. Using acetone, the original expiration dates of 2023 were removed and replaced with a false date of 2025. Additionally, it was found that these products, with altered expiration dates, were being prepared for export with Russian labels attached to them.
Furthermore, the inspection revealed that many of the products had been damaged by rodents within the warehouse. As a result, all confiscated products were destroyed, and the business was fined 58 thousand liras, while a criminal complaint was filed against the business owner.
In a separate inspection at a warehouse in the Altınova Sinan Neighborhood of the Kepez district, a disturbing discovery was made regarding unapproved chicken butchering activities. Authorities found 17 tons of expired, spoiled, brandless, and batch numbered chicken, minced chicken, and bone pieces in the warehouse, which did not meet hygiene standards. Moreover, a significant quantity of minced chicken was seized from the facility, which was equipped with machinery for mincing meat.
All products from this facility, where expired chickens were being processed into minced meat and put back on the market, were destroyed. The business faced administrative sanctions as a result of these shocking findings during the inspection.
These inspections highlight the importance of monitoring food safety standards and taking action against businesses that compromise public health by selling expired or improperly processed food products.
