Last Minute Turkey News: Expert Case Decision Reached
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has recently launched an investigation into allegations of a telephone conversation with an expert concerning journalist Pehlivan on Halk TV. The name of the expert involved has been disclosed as part of the ongoing inquiry.
As a result of the investigation, journalist Barış Pehlivan and Program Coordinator Kürşad Oğuz have been released under judicial control conditions. However, Halk TV Editor-in-Chief Suat Toktaş has been arrested in connection with the case.
Furthermore, program presenter Seda Selek is set to be released under judicial control measures, which include a travel ban and the requirement to sign in at the local police station.
In a recent development in the case, 5 journalists have been acquitted of all charges. Suat Toktaş, who had been detained, has also been released.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has clarified that the defendants have not been acquitted of all crimes, and proceedings related to the unauthorized recording of speeches have been forwarded to the reconciliation office for further action.
