Latest news from Turkey: CHP’s decision on April 23
The Republican People’s Party (CHP) has recently announced that they will not be participating in the reception at the Parliament tomorrow in honor of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. This decision was made by the Central Board of the Party.
Instead, the Anamuhalefet Party has planned to hold a rally in Ankara on April 23rd, where they will walk from the 1st Assembly to Anıtkabir.
CHP spokesman Deniz Yücel expressed his discontent after the FMC meeting, condemning the fact that their Palestinian action was not allowed over the weekend. He argued that advocating for Palestine’s freedom and opposing genocide is not a matter of party politics, stating, “When we say ‘Free Palestine,’ why is it considered illegal? Asking for freedom and standing against genocide is a universal right, not the exclusive domain of any particular party.”
The decision by CHP not to participate in the Parliamentary reception highlights the party’s commitment to important national events and their stance on international issues like the Palestinian cause.
