Latest News on the Controversial Occupation of Caravans in Kartal Sahil

Caravan drivers in Istanbul are causing a headache for local residents due to their parking habits. Namık Kemal, a resident, has complained to multiple authorities, including the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the police, and the district governor, about the lack of action being taken regarding the issue. Kemal believes that ISPARK, the parking management company, is failing to handle the situation, and has called for clearer signage regarding caravan parking. Despite a police intervention one month ago, caravan drivers continue to occupy parking spots, forcing regular drivers to search for space elsewhere.
Caravan owners themselves are unhappy with the situation, citing the high costs of caravan parks as a reason for their presence in other parking areas. While the monthly subscription fee at the Maltepe Orhangazi City Park is 1152 TL, the rates are lower in the Kartal coast parking area, making it more attractive for drivers.
Residents affected by the caravans have expressed frustration, with one Istanbul resident, Oğuz Tulem, stating that there is no space to park cars due to caravan drivers’ activities. Tulem has called for action to improve the situation, including clearer signage and caravan removal.
The issue has also had an impact on disabled individuals, such as Kazım Gençbay, who have had difficulties finding a place to park. Gençbay has called on authorities to take action, stressing that the presence of the caravans has diminished the value of the space for other users.
Meanwhile, others believe that caravan drivers stay in parking areas because they are free, as opposed to paying for a designated caravan park. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has yet to make any official statement regarding the issue. With dozens of trailers already parked in the area, it remains to be seen what actions will be taken to address the problem.
