Latvia Continues to Welcome Labor Migrants from Uzbekistan without Quotas

A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Migration Agency recently visited Latvia for discussions with Latvian Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulis. The talks resulted in an agreement that Latvia would not impose quotas on labor migrants from Uzbekistan. In addition, an agreement was signed with the logistics company Kreiss to hire Uzbek truck drivers.

Latvian officials have expressed their appreciation for the contributions of Uzbek workers, noting their increasing presence in the country, with numbers already exceeding 4,000.

The authorities have also reassured labor migrants that they will receive state protection, and their legal employment and social rights will be guaranteed.

An agreement has been made with the logistics company Kreiss to hire 400 Uzbek truck drivers in 2025. Training centers will be set up in Uzbekistan to ensure that the drivers meet international standards.

Currently, Kreiss employs 3,000 people, including a group of Uzbek drivers. The company is a leader in the European freight transport sector, having completed 215,000 international trips in 2024 with a fleet of 1,500 trucks.

On the other hand, Lithuania has implemented a strict quota for hiring unskilled foreign workers starting January 1, 2025. This decision was made due to the significant increase in the number of migrants from Central Asia, which has risen 14 times since 2021, and a lack of resources to properly screen them.
