Law enforcement uses force on 12-year-old in Tashkent

The Tashkent City Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a case involving the injury and emotional distress of a child, as per the request of the Children’s Ombudsman. The incident, which took place on December 22, 2023 in Tashkent, came to light when a video began circulating on social media. The footage shows police officers forcibly placing the child in a service car, during which the child hits his head and screams.

The child’s mother reported the incident to the Children’s Ombudsman on February 1, 2024. It was revealed that DIA officers Sh.M. and A.O. attempted to place the child in the service car after discovering pyrotechnic devices in his possession, causing the child to sustain a head injury and experience severe emotional distress.

In response to this situation, a service check was conducted against the MIA employees, Sh.M. and A.O., and disciplinary action was taken against them for their actions, which were deemed to be a violation of the MIA Professional Culture Code and an abuse of the child.

The Children’s Ombudsman condemned the actions of the law enforcement officers, emphasizing that such behavior towards children is unacceptable and should be strictly dealt with within the framework of the law. The Tashkent City Prosecutor’s Office is currently conducting a legal assessment of this incident in accordance with the request of the Children’s Ombudsman.
