Lebanon’s President Promises Justice for UN Peacekeepers’ Attackers
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has vowed to take action against those responsible for the recent attack on a United Nations peacekeeping convoy in the country. The attack took place the day before and resulted in injuries to the force’s outgoing deputy commander.
In a statement from the presidency, Aoun condemned the attack and emphasized that the perpetrators will face consequences for their actions. The statement also highlighted that the security forces will not tolerate any attempts to disrupt stability and civil peace in the country.
The incident occurred after Hezbollah supporters blocked the road to Lebanon’s only international airport for two consecutive nights in protest against a decision to prevent two Iranian planes from landing in Beirut. The army reported unruly protests in the area on Friday.
The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has called for an investigation into the attack, which saw one of its vehicles set on fire, injuring the deputy force commander as he was on his way home.
The Lebanese authorities are determined to hold those responsible for the attack accountable and maintain peace and stability in the country.
