Long-Awaited Reunion: The Heartbreaking Betrayal of Trust

It has been two years since the devastating earthquakes struck on 6 February, resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of lives and widespread destruction in cities. While reconstruction efforts are ongoing, there have been some bittersweet stories emerging.

In Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the earthquake, many citizens who had sent their carpets to be washed have not been able to retrieve them. Zülfikar Çırak, a washer, has been holding onto 150 carpets left behind by their owners since the disaster. Sadly, he believes that the owners of these carpets may have lost their lives in the earthquake. Out of the 150 carpets, he has only been able to return 50 to their rightful owners.

Unable to find the owners of the remaining 100 carpets, Zülfikar has decided to donate them to those in need as an act of charity. Stressing the importance of cleaning carpets before the upcoming Ramadan season, Zülfikar mentioned that they are offering free cleaning services for needy individuals. He explained, “The Kahramanmaraş Earthquake Region is like a construction site, with dust entering homes. As a result, there is a rush to clean carpets before Ramadan. We have returned the remaining carpets to those who unfortunately perished in the earthquake.”
