Magtymguly’s Melodic Echoes: A Poetic Challenge in Brussels
The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Brussels recently organized a poetry challenge to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly. The challenge, titled “Turkmenistan” or “The Future of Turkmenistan,” invited local residents of various nationalities and tourists to participate by reading the poem.
The event took place in busy locations throughout the Belgian capital, attracting participants of all ages who showed genuine interest in the work of the Turkmen poet. Many recited lines from one of Magtymguly’s most famous works in both English and French, some delivering their readings with such passion that they could be considered for an audience award.
It was noted that Magtymguly’s poetry resonated particularly well in the French language, highlighting the beauty and expressiveness of his writing across different cultures.
As the world celebrates World Poetry Day on March 21st annually, the idea of such a poetry challenge inspired by the Turkmen genius could be adopted and implemented in various countries and formats for the spring poetry festival coinciding with International Novruz Day.
By embracing the power of poetry to connect people and cultures, initiatives like the poetry challenge in Brussels can help celebrate diversity and creativity on a global scale.
