Major Changes to Identification Procedures in Hungary Starting September
Digital Citizenship Programme to Revolutionize Identification Processes in Hungary
Hungary is set to witness a significant transformation in its identification processes starting from September with the introduction of the Digital Citizenship Programme. This innovative initiative will eliminate the need for physical ID cards or driving licences, as citizens will now be able to present all their essential documents directly on their smartphones.
The Digital Citizenship Programme allows individuals to store important documents such as ID cards, driving licences, and passports within a single mobile app. According to reports from vezess.hu, this new system will enable citizens to leave their physical identification documents at home and only carry their smartphones. The app is already available for download, and users looking to participate in the programme will need to complete a one-time registration at a government office. However, starting from 1 September, this registration process can also be done online.
One of the key changes resulting from this programme will be seen in police identification procedures. Officers will verify a person’s identity using a Novamobil device and a QR code generated by the Digital Citizenship app. This verification process will be automated through pre-selected databases, eliminating the need for individuals to carry physical documents like driving licences while traveling by car.
In addition to simplifying identification processes, the Digital Citizenship app offers several other conveniences. Users can request a criminal record certificate with a single click, create legally recognized documents with digital signatures accepted across all EU member states, and even schedule appointments at government offices – all through their smartphones.
All that is required to take advantage of this programme is a smartphone with a compatible operating system. This revolutionary approach to identification processes is expected to enhance efficiency, convenience, and security for citizens across Hungary.
