Majority of Voters Back Nuclear Power Plant Construction, Exit Poll Reveals
Almost 70% Vote in Favor of Nuclear Power Plant Construction in Kazakhstan
According to exit poll results announced by Alibek Tazhibayev from the Sotsis-A Institute for Social Research, approximately 69.8 percent of voters in Kazakhstan have shown support for the construction of a nuclear power plant. Around 30.2 percent of people voted against the building of the plant, with a voter turnout of 67.3 percent.
The survey involved 283,519 citizens at 189 polling stations, with a margin of error of ± 1.5%. Polls were conducted at 10,323 polling stations, including 74 abroad in 59 countries, on October 6th. The polling stations were open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. without breaks.
As part of the electoral process, approximately 230 public associations in Kazakhstan served as observers, with international observers also monitoring the transparency of the voting process.
The Central Election Commission reported a voter turnout of 63.87% as of 8 p.m. Astana time on the voting day. Preliminary official results are expected to be announced on Monday, Oct. 7th, at a time to be determined by the commission.
