Maldives expresses gratitude to Turkey for Bayraktar TB2 SİHA
Maldives President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu expressed his gratitude towards President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the supply of Bayraktar TB2 UCAVs. The Maldives recently became a new user of the Bayraktar TB2 Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (SIHA), developed by BAYKAR with national resources. A ceremony was conducted at Mafar International Airport to commemorate the entry of Bayraktar TB2 UCAVs into the Maldives Air Force inventory.
During the ceremony, President Muizzu thanked President Erdoğan for his support in enhancing the country’s military capabilities. He highlighted that the first UAV-based maritime surveillance operation took place near Sri Lanka and acknowledged Turkey’s significant support in this endeavor. While the current supply consists of three UAVs from Turkey, President Muizzu mentioned that the number of UAVs would increase in the future, strengthening the ties between Turkey and Sri Lanka.
According to reports, BAYKAR has signed export contracts for Bayraktar TB2 SİHA with 33 countries and AKINCI TİHA with 9 countries. With nearly 600 Bayraktar TB2 UCAVs produced so far, BAYKAR’s exports of these UAVs contribute significantly to ASELSAN and Roketsan in obtaining export inputs.
ASELSAN is working on developing electro-optical and radar sensor systems for the aircraft, while Roketsan has produced a wide range of ammunition compatible with the Bayraktar TB2.
The Bayraktar TB2 UCAV offers advanced features such as fully automatic flight control, precision automatic takeoff and landing, and support for semi-autonomous flight modes. With an operational altitude of 18,000 feet and a maximum airborne time of 27 hours, the Bayraktar TB2 UCAV boasts impressive technical specifications that enhance its operational efficiency.
