Northern Cyprus Records Highest Rainfall in Mallıdağ
Northern Cyprus experienced its highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Mallıdağ recording 16 kilograms per square meter. The Meteorology Department announced the distribution of the rainfall across different regions, with Mallıdağ receiving 15 kg/m², as well as Alevkaya and Tatlısu, while Near East University recorded 14 kg/m². Kantara received 13 kg/m², Alayköy recorded 10 kg/m², Nicosia received 8 kg/m², and Değirmenlik and Türkeli both recorded 5 kg/m² of precipitation.
Other regions in Northern Cyprus recorded rainfall between 0.1 and 4 kg/m². The heavy rainfall has increased the risk of flooding and landslides, especially in areas that have already experienced significant rainfall in recent weeks.
The authorities have urged the public to take precautions and stay informed about weather conditions in their area. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and avoid driving through flooded areas. The fire department and emergency services are on standby in case of any incidents caused by the heavy rainfall.
