Turkish Citizens Abroad Vote in General Elections
Turkish citizens abroad have been participating in the General Elections for the President and 28th Term Member of Parliament, with voting taking place in various countries around Europe. On 6-7 May, voters in Lithuania were able to cast their ballots at the Turkish Embassy in Vilnius.
The voting process went smoothly and the sealed envelopes were collected and stored at the embassy overnight before being placed in diplomatic bags and taken to the airport to be put on Turkish Airlines (THY) flights to Istanbul. Diplomatic couriers and political party representatives accompanied the ballot bags.
Once they arrive in Turkey, the ballots will be taken to the Overseas District Election Board under the supervision of law enforcement officers.
The voting process started in April in some countries and continued into May. However, voting is still taking place in certain countries, including Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark, and France. The ballot boxes for Turkish voters in Europe will be open until tomorrow.
The General Elections in Turkey will take place on 14 May, with voters choosing their president and members of parliament. Turkish citizens living abroad are able to participate in the election process and have been casting their votes in various countries around the world.
